Volunteer

Open Streets Wilmington events couldn’t happen without our volunteers. Help residents enjoy an afternoon of safe space to get outside and play! There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available for each event, including:

Set-up: All hands on deck to get the event ready to go. Sample tasks include assembling modular wooden benches (no tools or experience necessary), unloading trucks, hanging signs, and helping vendors pop up their canopies.

Bike Rental Table: Collect ID and waiver signatures from event participants who would like to ride and help them adjust the seat on the free loaner bikes. We’ll show you how to adjust the seats – it’s easy!

Survey Table: Collect survey responses from event participants. The responses help us improve future events, gauge whether the neighborhood would like us to return again, and demonstrate our impact to funders.

Course Marshall: Refill water buckets at the super soaker station, check with vendors to see if they need water, snacks, or someone to watch their table while they use the restroom, and respond to any other needs throughout the event.

Play Streets Monitor: Keep an eye on the kids play area to monitor for safety (and report any incidents to event organizers, if necessary) and make sure the play equipment stays in the designated area. This is a relaxing but important job – most of the time you won’t need to interfere, but every event we do lose some equipment and your eyes and ears can help ensure that we have equipment for future events!

Clean Up: Get everything off the street and loaded up in the trucks, clean up trash, and collect signs. Free meal for clean up crew!
